Article Abstract:

Compulsory competitive tendering for sport and leisure management has not often led to cost savings for local authorities, but it has certainly improved standards of leisure management. Managers are now more informed and more effective, but there are still a number of steps to be taken before the highest possible standards of professional performance are reached. Article Abstract:

Other challenges facing them as the new year beings include making a contribution to the health of local people, improving service standards and acting to boost local democracy.
