Article Abstract:

The background and future of leisure architecture is discussed. It is forecast that although there will be few new conventional theme parks built, the market for replacements will continue. Specific local authority leisure buildings will be replaced by developments in partnership with the commercial sector. Other forecasts include development of leisure malls, arenas, and interactive museums.

The Orlando convention industry appears to be the hardest hit leisure sector in Florida after the September 11 terror attacks with 253 planned conventions being cancelled in the weeks following the incident.
