London Borough of Islington, England introduced its tourism initiative 'Discover Islington' on Sep 25, 1992. The scheme aims to stimulate economic growth and employment by raising the profile of a little known area of london. The English Tourist Board, Department of Environment and Islington Council have sponsored the project in collaboration with commercial companies. Publicity material draws attention to Islington's theatres, antiques shops, Canal Museum and walks. The initiative will be monitored to assess its impact.

Companies from 30 countries will send teams to London to compete in the fifth World Corporate games between Sep 26, 1992 and Oct 4, 1992. Popular sporting events inclde badminton, squash and golf. The games encourage fitness rather than excellence and emphasise teamwork. The games are financed through competition fees and sponsorship. However, in 1992 the Foundation for Sport and the Arts provided 100,000 pounds sterling. London will benefit from associated tourist activity.

Quality measurement ensures uniform and consistent service. Benefits include staff motivation and efficiency and customer satisfaction. The initial cost of upgrading services may be high but future investment to maintain standards is less and a good return can be expected.
