Article Abstract:
There are increasing concerns over the environmental implications of grit blasting during hull coating procedures in shiprepair facilities. The cost of providing new equipment to reduce environmental pollution has prompted both shiprepairers and shipowners to consider alternative means of hull preparation. The Hong Kong Shipowners Assn. has formed a coatings working group to develop a standard by which shipowners can specify environmentally safe paints for newbuilding contracts.
