Article Abstract:

Larger propellers are being designed to meet the rising demand for more high-powered vessels such as large containerships and tankers. Bigger higher-powered vessels need large heavy propellers. Among the factors being considered in the design of these larger propellers are blade strength, mechanical properties, fatigue strength, resistance to wastage and stress corrosion cracking.

A review is presented of 3 waste water treatment systems for use on ships. They include Triqua's Mem Triq Marine system used by the Dutch Navy, Zenon Environmental's Marine Membrane Bioreactor and Hydroxyl System's CleanSea system.

Det Norske Veritas has introduced a new thickness measuring system said to provide more accurate and faster steel thickness information than traditional methods. The new tool uses half wave resonance.
