Deeper dumper

Article Abstract:

The 21, 858 dwt heavy cargo vessel Seahorse has been converted into a dumping vessel by joint venture company Scheldepoort of The Netherlands. The concept was based on the stone dumping vessel Tideway: Rollingstone which was converted in 1994. The capacity of the Seahorse was increased to 18,000t of stone and the vessel was equipped with a special heave compensated ROV. Its features also include a Class II DP system and four retractable thrusters.

A spate of large cruise ship refits

Article Abstract:

Lloyd Werft was chosen by Birka Line of Finland for a $24 million refit to its ship Birka Princess. The renewal, which starts in Jan 2000, will include improvement of capacity and services. Capacity will increase by 12.5% and a third restaurant and bar will be built that will require a remodelling of the fore part of the ship. Moreover, a Marioff Hi-fog sprinkler system is being installed in public and machinery spaces.
