Cruise ship orders continue unabated

Article Abstract:

The growing popularity of cruise travel has stimulated demand for new cruise ships. Based on the latest reports, international shipyards have a total orderbook of 50,000 lower berths for 1995, representing about $8.5 billion in investments. Despite the advent of the Solas agreement in 1997, shipping analysts predict that the number of new ships being introduced in the market will continue to outpace those being removed and scrapped. A discussion of some the noteworthy cruise ship building projects in Europe is presented.

China exports are on the up and up

Article Abstract:

China's shipbuilding industry is booming as both domestic and foreign shippers demand a variety of vessels ranging from oil tankers to container ships. Among the prominent shipyards in the country are Dalian Shipyard, Jiangnan Shipyard and Hang Tong High-Speed Ship Development Co. Ltd. These and other shipyards have customers from various countries such as Germany, Norway and its Asian neighbors.

Marintec China previewed

Article Abstract:

Some 250-300 shipping, shipbuilding and marine equipment companies from 20 countries and regions will converge at the Shanghai Exhibition Center in Shanghai, China, from Dec. 5-8, 1995, for Marintec China 95. The larger number of participating companies compared to the 1993 show can be attributed to China's booming shipbuilding industry.
