Bulker ballast coatings: a cause for concern?

Article Abstract:

The issue concerning the ability of bulker ballast coatings to withstand the eroding effects of cargo handling operations is discussed. An instance of cracking and delamination of amine-cured epoxy ballast tank coating containing no solvents within a year after delivery of the ships focuses on the need to be aware of applying the right coating thickness and mixing ratio and the detrimental effects of cold temperatures on coating quality.

Ballast tank coatings aid structural integrity

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning safety regulations for ballast tank coatings are discussed. Particular attention is given to guidelines on coating maintenance and corrosion prevention and conditions for water ballast tanks to implement correct protections programmes.

Coating debate still on agenda at MEPC

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning the environmental effects of ship coatings are discussed. PArticular attention is given to concerns expressed by the Marine Environmental Protection Committee that tin-based coats may have to be removed.
