Article Abstract:
Shipowners and shipyards can avoid misunderstandings and conflicts by clarifying the terms of the repair contract. Imprecise wording, such as 'carry out all necessary repairs,' often creates a gap between the expectations of the shipowner and the performance of the yard. To avoid confusion, both parties should clarify such issues as duties and obligations, compensation mechanisms for work delays, early completion awards, and contract changes.

Article Abstract:
Goltens Dubai restored a damaged crankshaft in the cable ship Umm Al Anber's Pielstick 8PC2L main engine. The damage was caused by a drop in lub oil pressure brought about by the slowdown of the lub oil pump that supplies the main engine. The repair was carried out by using laser alignment and line-bored in-situ. Pielstick provided Goltens with saddles and bearing caps needed for the machining work.
