An evaluation of the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System for use in monitoring nonfatal firearm injuries and obtaining national estimates

Article Abstract:

The National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS) proves to be an efficient system for monitoring nonfatal gunshot wounds and providing national estimates in the US. Failure to account for new hospitals with emergency departments and annual variations in the number of emergency department visits, affect the estimates. NEISS data is useful in studying seasonal changes and patterns of gunshot injuries during holidays and working days. The NEISS Firearm Injury Surveillance Study is useful in evaluating prevention programs.

Injuries and aging workers

Article Abstract:

The result of a study on injuries of old workers in nuclear power plants shows that age is directly proportional to the number of days lost due to injury and bears an indirect relationship with the safety of the organization. The direct relationship reveals that the older workers suffer a large number of injury days as compare to their younger counterparts and the indirect relationship shows organizational safety is related with age and the number of security measures are related with organizational safety.
