Some Man Overboard (MOB) retrieval equipment manufacturers argue that the chances of survival of such casualties are increased if they are recovered in a horizontal, instead of a vertical, position. Such a position is believed to be capable of preventing the occurrence of circum rescue collapse. Some of the available MOB equipment for preventing circum rescue collapse include Jason's Cradle from Land and Marine Products, Rescue Sling from Sula Bedriftsteneste and M4 Markusnet from Markus Lifenet.

South Coast Shipping adds another monumental achievement to its credit with the launching of two trailing suction hopper dredgers. Sand Falcon, the first of the two vessels, was deployed in De Merwede Shipyard, Netherlands, while the other, which sails under the name Sand Fulmar, was launched in the same site in July 1999. Designed to dredge sand, gravel and other underwater mixtures, these vessels would be used by the company to load marine aggregates in several ports in the UK.

Accurate prediction of sea state could help prevent damages caused by heavy weather. Knowing the exact wave measurements and direction enables the crew to determine the appropriate speed and minimize possible damages that may cause delays. Monitoring can be done easily by using standard X-band radar equipment that base their calculations on a series of consecutive radar images. Miros' John Christensen said that the equipment can help reduce costs for vessel operators.
