Scatterometry is a useful technology for sailors which monitors the surface-wind speed and direction, sea-surface height, ocean swells and current. Scattermetry data is used to accurately locate weather features such as fronts and pressure centers and to better initialize computer forecast models.

A cloud chart which shows the 10 main formations of cloud is presented, enabling the user to monitor current cloud conditions to watch for changes in the weather. It is recommended that the reader make their own cloud chart for use on board a sailboat.
