Dermatologic spas are a relatively new service. These facilities, sometimes called medical spas, provide a variety of services including facials, body scrubs, massage, wraps, peels, manicures and paraffin treatments. However, the emergence of these spas has raised ethical issues in some quarters.

Issues are presented concerning the use of biopsies for the detection of skin cancer. The misreading of biopsies and the benefits of gaining a second opinion where diagnosis is unclear are discussed.
