Anecdotes are presented about the histories of the five golf clubs that formed a group in 1894 that became the US Golf Assn. The first US Open was played in 1896 at Shinnecock Hills, a charter member and the first incorporated club in the US.

Anecdotes are presented from the career of golfer Gene Sarazen, who played in the 1920s and 1930s and was the first player to win all the modern major events. He was nicknamed the Squire in 1933 when he purchased his first farm.
