Sailing in puffs

Article Abstract:

The random and erratic nature of puffs makes sailing in puffy conditions a challenge. An unstable airmass comprised of rapidly moving cool air, puffs may move in various directions. This makes it imperative for sailors to learn how puffs behave to be able to develop sound sailing techniques.

Use wake as a weapon

Article Abstract:

Sailboat racers can use the two quarter-wakes created by their boats on a reach to gain an advantage during competitions. Defensively, quarter-wakes can be used to prevent other boats from passing. Offensively, racers can use the wake created by another boat to pass larger boats.
