Reflections on the Intracoastal Waterway

Article Abstract:

Experiences of sailing south on the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) are presented. The ICW route is clearly marked with permanent daymarks and lights, with the red marks usually being on the mainland side and left to starboard when going south. The water can be very shallow, especially near inlets and crossing streams.

How reliable is your GPS?

Article Abstract:

The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite-based navigation system which is accurate and helpful for sailing enthusiasts. Nevertheless, one should not rely solely on the GPS because signals can be blocked and its accuracy may be affected by the geometry of a particular situation.
