The implementation of the 'print on demand' program by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration may pose negative effects on the production and distribution of nautical charts. The program, which is aimed at complying with the government's privatization policy, can be disadvantageous to boaters.

The accuracy of four marine speedometers was tested aboard a 23-ft Wahoo Sportfish against a Stalker radar gun. The devices included a Gaffrig GC-45 ($195), a VDO Vanguard ($400), an Apelco 6400 loran ($478) and a Garmin 75 GPS ($825).
