Pedometer accuracy in nursing home and community-dwelling older adults

Article Abstract:

A study to examine the effects of walking speed and gait disorders on the accuracy of pedometers with nursing home residents (NH) relative to older adults living in community is carried out. Results obtained show, slow walking speed and gait disorders obstruct the utility of pedometers for physical activity measurement in frail seniors.

Vitamin E and immunity after the Kona Triathlon world championship

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to measure the influence of vitamin E ingestion on oxidative stress and immune changes in response to the Triathlon World Championship in Kona. The findings indicate that vitamin E compared with placebo ingestion before a competitive triathlon race event promotes lipid peroxidation and inflammation during exercise.

Glycine-arginine-alpha-ketoisocaproic acid improves performance of repeated cycling sprints

Article Abstract:

The effect of glycine-arginine-alpha-ketoisocaproic acid (GAKIC) supplementation on repeated bonuts of anaerobic cycling performance is determined. The results indicate that GAKIC ingestion significantly attenuates the drop in mean power output associated with repeated sprints of anaerobic cycling.
