Vitamin E concentration in rat skeletal muscle and liver after exercise

Article Abstract:

Twenty-four rats were used to test the effect of exercise on antioxidant depletion in skeletal muscle. Seven rats were used in a control group; 17 were exercised. Results indicated that vitamin E depletion occurred and remained at low levels for 24 hours even when rats maintained a steady diet of vitamin E. The experiment was meant to test a theory that exercise temporarily reduces antioxidants, and is the first to measure vitamin E as a function of exercise.

Resistance training and energy balance

Article Abstract:

The impact of resistance training on resting metabolic rate (RMR) was studied on a group that included 36 aerobically trained, 18 resistance trained and 42 sedentary individuals. Results indicate resistance training may increase RMR. Energy expenditure, however, may not be enhanced. Resistance training creates more fat free mass in body composition and enhances strength.
