Reptiles such as lizards and snakes can carry salmonella bacteria, which can cause life-threatening symptoms such as fever, stomach cramps, vomiting and diarrhea. Parents are advised not to purchase such pets, although washing one's hands after handling such as pet can help prevent disease.

Tests results gleaned from 622 college basketball players using both hightops and low sneakers for two months, indicate no notable difference in ankle sprains among the different players. Newness, support, and comfort are more important factors in preventing strain than ankle cut.
