Effect of knee joint effusion on quadriceps and soleus motorneuron excitability

Article Abstract:

This article examines changes in motorneuron pool activity in the quadriceps and soleus due to artificially-induced knee joint effusion during a four hour period. Muscle reflex response values measured by surface electromyography indicate that knee joint effusion inhibited reflexes in the quadriceps while facilitating reflexes in the soleus.

Leg electromyography and the VO(sub)2 power relationship during bicycle ergometry

Article Abstract:

This article examines the relationship between power and oxygen consumption in male cyclists during an exhaustive exercise test. Findings indicate that oxygen consumption does not have a linear relationship with measures of power obtained through leg electromyography and that neuromuscular activity and oxygen consumption provide a threshold for sustainable exercise.

VO2 slow component: to model or not to model?

Article Abstract:

This article compares techniques used to measure the amplitude of the slow component in oxygen uptake kinetics, using male cyclists as subjects. Results showed that all methods provided significant underestimates when compared with actual amplitudes.
