Latinizing Fenway Park: a cultural critique of the Boston Red Sox, their fans, and the media

Article Abstract:

Ever since the Boston Red Sox recruited their Dominican pitcher, Pedro Martinez, large groups of Latinos have become apart of the audience at Fenway Park, something the media has noticed and used to promote racial tolerance. The author argues racial tolerance is not necessarily the social reality, and asserts Latinos go to the games to offer their support to the Dominican pitcher and celebrate their identity.

Seeing your sporting body: Identity, subjectivity, and misrecognition

Article Abstract:

The identification through a body is a misrecognition as postulated by the works of Foucault who advocates an exclusively discursive account for identity and Lacan who recommends an exclusively psychoanalytic account. The identification of a female athlete involves the possibility of her body being a point of discussion between both discursive and psychic accounts of her subjectivity.
