A motorboat owner recounted his first experience in using the Garmin GPS 40 navigational aid. The Garmin 40 is considered the global positioning navigator with dimensions of 6" tall, 2" wide and 1 1 4 deep. Procedures in controlling the device with the owner's left hand were described.

Article Abstract:

The ITT Night Mariner Gen III uses new technology that coats the photocathode of the intensifier with gallium-arsenide for improved light amplification. It provides excellent night vision for recreational boaters. The monocular version costs $1,495. Binoculars are priced at $2,495.

Article Abstract:

The Northstar 951XD's operation was assessed during an exercise that required finding a lost boat at night under the worst of conditions. The chartplotter, which features a built-in differential Global Position System receiver, delivered excellent performance.
