Article Abstract:

Rodolphe Maheux of Laval University in Quebec City, Canada, has concluded that estrogen supplements help preserve skin as well as bones in postmenopausal women. In fact, a test of 60 nuns has shown that skin thickness was actually increased by 12% by hormone replacement therapy.

Article Abstract:

The ozone layer, which offers some protection from the sun's ultraviolet B rays, has been dissipating at approximately 5% a year, and the incidence of melanoma is increasing. A visit to Punta Arenas, Chile, the largest urban area under the ozone 'hole,' is described.

Article Abstract:

Dermatologist Albert Kligman and his wife biologist Lorraine have issued many well-publicized warnings about the dangers of ultraviolet light on skin. The Kligmans say that radiation from the sun can cause premature wrinkles and can also pave the way for skin cancer.
