Article Abstract:
The relationship between energy expenditure (EE) and heart rate (HR) using different methods was examined and the equations derived were used to estimate EE in free-living children using 12 hour HR monitoring. The results stated that individual calibrations of HR-VO2 equation improves prediction and also have practical implications for assessing daily EE and for making dietary and physical activity recommendations for youth at risk for obesity and health related problems.

Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to assess the measured physical activity levels and patterns from children participating in the European Youth Heart Study (EYHS), which addresses the prevalence and etiology of cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors in children aged 9 and 15 yr. The study revealed that boys are more active than girls and there was marked reduction in activity over the adolescent years.

Article Abstract:
A study investigates whether the way that children and adolescents travel to school is associated with level of cardiovascular fitness. It is found that children and adolescents who cycle to school are significantly more fit than those who walk or travel by motorized transport and are nearly five times as likely to be in the top quartile of fitness.
