Kenya has produced numerous male Olympic runners, but no women have competed in the Olympics until recently. Women such as Susan Sirma are beginning to earn reputations as winning runners. Women were not encouraged to pursue athletics in the past.

Article Abstract:

Arturo Barrios, world record holder for 20,000 meters, will compete on Nov 14, 1993, in the New York City Marathon. During his training period, he averages 110 miles per week and he is very intent on winning the marathon.
