An $8 paper painting suit available at a paint or industrial supplies store is the most effective protection against the biting flies that often attack recreational boaters on the Great Lakes. The suits are reusable and keep the wearer cool by reflecting sunlight.

A group of Hobie Cat racers organized an expedition that departed from Miami, FL, and traveled through the Bahamas and up the Amazonian river system. The boats were two Hobie Cat 21 sport cruisers modified with outboard motors and boom tents.
