Article Abstract:

Mouligne won the Around Alone's opening sailing competition. He discovered the need for stronger sails when his Finot 50 boat fell on its side after it was hit by a squall on its way to Cape Town. He plans to use smaller Kevlar main with deep reefs and attach a roller-furler to the inner headstay.

Center your rig before you tune the mast

Article Abstract:

A properly-centered rig is necessary before sailboat masts can be adjusted. Improperly-centered rigs will cause masts to lean on one side and result in asymmetrical jib-lead positions from tack to tack.
