A Mexican storm packing 45-knot winds and stronger gusts destroyed the calm of a hot September night in the Sea of Cortez as a small fleet of cruisers lay near the north end of Isla Monserrat. A couple aboard the 1961 ketch Southern Cross managed to reach the island's lee, narrowly missing disaster.
