Article Abstract:

Dermitis herpetiformis is a rare skin disease that appears to be linked to gluten intolerance. Its symptoms include intensely itchy blisterlike patches, especially on the elbows and knees. A drug called dapson can relieve the itching, but the only cure is a diet entirely free from gluten.

There are a number of promising treatments for retinal degeneration, cataracts, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy. Laser therapy can effectively treat retinal degeneration, while antioxidants can prevent or reverse cataracts. Other therapies are described.
