A whole new boat race

Article Abstract:

The fifth edition of Around Alone sailboat race will be held on Sep 26, 1998 from Charleston, SC, to Cape Town, South Africa. The longest-running singlehanded yacht competition will incorporate new changes, most notable of which are the name change from BOC Challenge and the route.

Caribbean 1500

Article Abstract:

A 180-knot hurricane named Mitch that ravaged four countries headed in the direction of the Caribbean islands and disrupted the Caribbean 1500 yacht rally. By the time Mitch reached Bermuda, winds were blowing at 50 knots delaying th 2nd leg of the race.

Ode to the backyard boat

Article Abstract:

Backyard boats have disappeared to be replaced by ready made boats financed by plastic transaction cards. Despite its disappearance, the American qualities they represented, which include determination and the willingness to try, are still alive.
