A 10-yr study of smokeless tobacco use in a professional baseball organization

Article Abstract:

The prevalence of smokeless tobacco use in a professional baseball organization over a 10-year period was monitored, looking for changes in the patterns of use and resultant changes in the incidence of oral leukoplakia. It was found that over a period of 10-year study, the frequency of tobacco use showed a steady decline in professional baseball organization with a concomitant decline in prevalence of oral leukoplakia in this population.

Os trigonum syndrome with flexor hallucis longus tenosynovitis in a professional football referee

Article Abstract:

Os trigonum syndrome coupled with flexor hallucis longus tenosynovitis appeared in a professional football referee. This ankle condition is usually found among ballet dancers. The referee had injured his ankle on artificial turf, complained of continued pain, and had explorative surgery. The tear in the flexor hallucis longus was repaired and the Achilles tendon paratenon was released.

Two years of debilitating pain in a football spearing victim: slipping rib syndrome

Article Abstract:

This article discusses a diagnostic procedure for the diagnosis of "slipping rib syndrome" in football athletes. The diagnosis involves a clinicl manipulation coupled with a history of symptomatic relief through costochondral blockade. Data show that surgical resection of the slipping rib resolves the problem.
