Article Abstract:

Two-stroke outboard engines have served fishermen and recreational boaters very well over the years. However, a new generation of four-stroke outboards are more efficient, powerful and environment-friendly. These four-stroke models are expected to replace the older two-stroke engines in the future.

Article Abstract:

Five four-stroke 9.9-hp outboards and six two-stroke 9.9-hp outboards were tested on a Tracker Pro 15 aluminum modified-vee fishing boat. The Honda received the top rating among the four-strokes, and the Mariner was rated the best two-stroke model.

Three mid-range outboard motors are assessed for performance on a Challenger 1800DC bass boat. They are the two-stroke Evinrude 115 Intruder ($9,706), the four-stroke Honda 90 ($9,270) and the electronic-fuel-injected Suzuki 115 EFI ($10,203).
