1996: the best boats of the year!

Article Abstract:

The features of six outstanding cruising sailboats are described. They include the Catalina 28 Mk II, Passport 41, Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 35.1, Hood Pilothouse 51, Island Packet 45 and Privilege 42. Cruising World magazine named them the best boats of 1996.

Beachcomber: thin-water thoroughbred

Article Abstract:

The Beachcomber which draws only 18 in. of water was developed by Warren Bailey in 1972. It is a liveaboard shoal-draft cruiser. Its bottom is perfectly flat and has no rocker and rise. Its proportions are very much like that of the canoe.
