The Nikonos V combined with the SB 105 through-the-lens auto flash allows divers to take beautiful underwater pictures despite inadequate lighting. However, photographers must understand some of the basic techniques in underwater photography. Some of these basic techniques are discussed.

Single lens reflex (SLR) cameras are ideal for taking close-up shots of marine life. SLR cameras are simple to operate and are ideal companions to the Nikonos V camera. To properly focus the camera, users must view the subject through the viewfinder to find the best contrast.
