Article Abstract:

This article examines the increasing rise of unwed motherhood in Russia, as well as the populations attitude towards children and family. The author maintains that the importance family and children to women, increasing economic and social independence, and high rates of divorce and widowhood are significant factors to the rise of unwed mothers.

Ethnic and regional conflicts in the post-Soviet Union have greatly affected the ethnic population. Chechnya and Tajikistan have have suffered the greatest population losses, in which approximately 100,000 people have been killed, while displacement of certain ethnic groups is also shifting the demography of post-Soviet regions.

Suicide in Russia

Article Abstract:

This article discusses the suicide rate among men and women in Russia. The authors maintain the suicide rate among men has risen recently, while suicide is declining among women. Also, suicide is more frequent among people who live alone, have a low level of education and low social status.
