The role of episodic and semantic memory in the development of trait self-knowledge

Article Abstract:

Semantic knowledge of trait self-knowledge is available and can serve as a basis for trait self-judgments in low trait-relevant experiences. A study testing recall and descriptive tasks with first quarter undergraduates was found to support the researchers' contention that a memory's age does not reflect the facilitation pattern of the quantitative differences, but the undergraduates' experiences do. There was no evidence that the retrieval of behavioral information was required when making trait self-descriptiveness judgments.

Intergroup bias in group judgement processes: the role of behavioral memories

Article Abstract:

Research has indicated that there is a persistent belief in the superiority of in-groups over out-groups despite evidence which suggests the contrary. Two experiments were conducted to investigate the function of memory in judgements about in-groups and out-groups where both the amount and type of information that a person knows about these groups is controlled. The results are analyzed and discussed.

Independence of episodic and semantic self-knowleged: the case from autism

Article Abstract:

Semantic personal memory and episodic personal memory appear to be neurally dissociable types. Research with a high-functioning autistic person shows his accurate knowledge of his traits although access to personal experiences are significantly limited.
