Responses to agrarian reforms in Russia: Evidence from Novosibirsk oblast

Article Abstract:

A survey was conducted in Novosibirsk oblast, central Russia about agrarian reforms, among directors of restructured collective farms, private farmers, rural development officers, and agricultural specialist. It showed that the private farming sector would not contribute significantly to the maintenance of the rural infrastructure, and break-up of the established village farm-villager symbiotic linkages would result in some other organization having to pick up these cost and responsibilities.

The changing nature of rurality and rural studies in Russia

Article Abstract:

Developments in the Russian rural sector are not understood as well as those that took place in other European countries. An attempt is made to comprehend more carefully the meanings of rurality in Russia through an examination of the research done on a wide range of interests in the countryside with particular emphasis on Russian writings on rurality.

Rural young people in regional development - the case of Finland in 1970-2000

Article Abstract:

Inviolable and relative changes in the 15-24 year age cohort in Finland and their effects on the demographic and regional structure is analyzed in view of the importance of youth in society. The results indicate that the number and proportion of young people in the population of Finland have declined since 1970.
