History of sexual abuse and parental alcohol misuse: risk, outcomes and protective factors in adolescents

Article Abstract:

Teenagers with a history of sexual abuse and parental alcohol misuse show higher rates of suicidal involvement, disordered eating behaviors, pregnancy risks and chemical use than teenagers with a normal background. High religiosity, and good communication with parents and friends act as a protection from adverse outcomes. Adolescents with a background involving both the risk factors show higher level of these adverse outcomes than those with a background involving only one risk factor. Depression, substance use and financial insecurity increase the chance of adverse outcomes.

The fatherbook: a document for therapeutic work with father-absent early adolescent boys

Article Abstract:

Children who grow up without fathers are more likely to become dysfunctional both personally and socially. A document called 'Fatherbook,' based on work with early adolescent boys, has been developed specifically to help fatherless young children begin to constructively resolve the problems of growing up without a father. In creating the 'Fatherbook,' the process will hopefully aid such children to control the tendency to act out their reactions to being fatherless.

Post-traumatic stress disorder in childhood sexual abuse: a synthesis and analysis of theoretical models

Article Abstract:

Current theories regarding post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) were synthesized and critically examined to elucidate on PTSD among sexually abused children. The different models were grouped into three broad categories, namely, learning models, behavioral/cognitive models and formative models. Findings indicated that PTSD diagnosis is a complex task and that this is complicated by several complex issues and questions.
