Functional associations among trauma, PTSD, and substance-related disorders

Article Abstract:

The correlations between trauma, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and substance abuse disorders are analyzed. Potential pathways to PTSD-substance abuse comorbidity are considered including the onset of the disorders, patients' perceptions of drug effects and differences between PTSD patients with and without comorbid substance use disorders. The effects of alcohol and other drugs on PTSD are also examined.

The context-specific positive alcohol outcome expectancies of university women

Article Abstract:

Research is presented concerning the physical and psychological effects of the consumption of alcohol in 78 university undergraduate women with different positive alcohol expectancies. Sexual, tension and social drinking contexts are discussed.

Parental problem drinking and anxiety disorder symptoms in adult offspring: examining the mediating role of anxiety sensitivity components

Article Abstract:

A study of college students with alcoholic parents showed that children of alcoholic parents tend to have a higher level of anxiety sensitivity and are more prone to anxiety and panic disorders.
