Article Abstract:
Mistakes in the estimation of age at which alcohol and tobacco are used for the first time were investigated. A five-year longitudinal study with three measurements was used. Findings showed that the concept age of first use should be employed with care because of two factors. One is the lack of reliability of assessments and another is that correlations of various estimates with actual frequency and intensity of use at the third wave are erroneous.
