Fear of negative evaluation and gender interact to predict alcohol beverage preference

Article Abstract:

Alcohol expectancies, social anxiety and sex-related parameters were examined to elucidate the effects of cognitive and psychosocial parameters on alcohol beverage preference. The subjects were given diet cola, beer, tonic water and pineapple juice and asked regarding their preferences when each of the beverages were paired against the others. The results showed that alcohol expectancies had no influence on beer selection. Compared to the other groups studied, women who were apprehensive of negative evaluation tended not to choose beer.

Cognitive and situational factors predict alcoholic beverage selection

Article Abstract:

Research suggests a positive relationship between an individual's alcohol consumption and choice of beverage with that of drinking partner's drinking patterns. Sixty men and 73 women were tested to find predicators of an individual alcoholic beverage selection in a situation in which another individual has already selected a drink. It was found that both individual and situational factors need to be analysed in predicting beverage selection behavior.

The influence of personality, cognition, and behavior on perceptions and metaperceptions following alcoholic beverage selection in a dating situation

Article Abstract:

The perceptions and metaperceptions of people in a mixed sexed dating situation in which they were asked to choose their drinking alcohol were studied. Findings showed that alcohol expectancies indicated the choice of alcoholic beverage. When women chose alcohol, they observed that their partners are more likeable. Also, both partners viewed each other as extroverted when they are both drinking.
