Article Abstract:
Adolescents and young adults who meet DSM-IV criteria for a lifetime history of either alcohol abuse or alcohol dependence are studied to identify potential predictors or association of either substance use disorder (SUD) or mental health (MH) treatment using substance use and mental health variables. It is found that the best predictors of who enters treatment and how long they stay are not related to co morbidity or other clinical variables but might be related to environmental factors.

Article Abstract:
A community sample of adolescents and those with alcohol use disorders (AUD) from drug and alcohol are studied to identify adolescents with inadequate supervision and the effects on AUD development and treatment outcome. Results indicate that community adolescents with inadequate supervision are significantly more likely to drink alcohol, are more likely to have AUDs at the initial assessment and those without AUDs are more likely to develop AUDs in the follow-up period.
