Categorising to exclude: the discursive construction of cases in community mental health teams
Article Abstract:
This article examines the decision-making process of community mental health teams (CMHTs) in determining whether or not patients should be assigned to caseloads. The author discusses how CMHTs process referrals form psychiatrists and psychologists, maintaining they may decide on less intensive treatment options, delay acceptance by requesting more information, or reject candidates by claiming they are inappropriate.
