Breastfeeding has become theoretically viewed in Australia as the best food source for newborns, yet research with first-time mothers shows significant differences in practical experience. Some regarded breastfeeding as a way to further the relationship with their babies, while others saw this as an intrusion on their control and independence.

Issues regarding the moral judgment of AIDS pateints evident in media coverage of these people are discussed. The manner in whichh these people deport themselves once infected seems more important than how they contracted the virus in this coverage A survey of HIV/AIDS patients in the Australian press between 1994 and 1996 is discussed.

The daily food habits and preferences of rural Australian couples and their ideas of a healthy diet are discussed. The study found conservative food preferences and tradition, family togetherness and sociality to be important values associated with food.
