Article Abstract:
A study of the effect of nicotine dependence in adolescent smokers on the success of two different smoking cessation programs is examined. The study showed that a brief cessation program was only effective with the lightly addicted and that an intensive, long-term program was more effective for teenagers with a strong addiction to nicotine.

Adolescents addicted to smoking were observed in relation with the stage of change and the smoking cessation outcomes by being exposed to different intensity interventions. The reaction and impact amongst adolescents being exposed showed that it depended on the intensity levels of intervention.

Evidence is presented supporting emergency department-based tobacco control interventions that target all smokers, as adult emergency department patients who smoke were found to have mild to moderate nicotine addiction levels and an interest in quitting.
