Article Abstract:
Tobacco dependence among individuals with mental illness or an addiction is studied and issues related to treatment, symptoms and policy issues that should be attended to so that more work can be performed in this area are discussed. It has been seen that tobacco dependence can be reduced using a combination of treatments that include motivational techniques, behavioral therapy and medications.

Article Abstract:
A 5 year study of the effects of greater enforcement of regulations against tobacco sales to minors in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania shows that sales to teenagers dropped 4% between 1994 and 1998. Signs stating laws about sales to minors, checking of identification and asking the age of the buyer were all deterrents to selling to minors.

There are variations in perceived risk and reported use of drugs among ethnic groups and in preferences for particular drugs. There are also drug use differences among ethnic groups by gender and age.
