Achieving abstinence by treating depression in the presence of substance-use disorders

Article Abstract:

Meta analysis method was used for conducting trials of antidepressants in relation to comorbidities of drug or alcohol dependence and mood disorders in the presence or absence of psychosocial treatment. Antidepressant medication and psychotherapy may help in the treatment of substance dependent depressed patients.

Factors predicting 2-year retention in methadone maintenance treatment for opioid dependence

Article Abstract:

Factors predicting 2-year retention in methadone maintenance and the impact of repeat treatment episodes on retention are examined. Higher rates of retention in methadone treatment were found which suggest that repeat episodes may not be much beneficial.
