Article Abstract:

The dominant illness narrative of restitution within Anglo-Western cultures dominates risk understandings. The cultural values of personal responsibility and control in fighting diseases and returning to normalcy are reflected in restitution stories. Risk understandings contribute to the consumption of health-care interventions exceeding medical guidelines.

Influentials, networks, and public opinion formation

Article Abstract:

Computer simulations of interpersonal influence processes are used to study the impact of influentials, a small group of individuals influencing many people, on public opinion formation. Large cascades of influence are driven by a critical mass of easily influenced individuals and not influentials.
