Social networks and organizational interventions: insights from an area-wide labor-management committee

Article Abstract:

Looking at social networks in a real life environment, a University of Texas professor studied why some community leaders favor organizational development interventions while other do not. He found that those with weak ties to the community's elite, those whose ties are based on work only, are more likely to support the interventions, while those with strong informal ties within the population group do not want to change the status quo, and so oppose interventions.

The impact of emergent network structure on organizational socialization

Article Abstract:

Networks among people have obvious effects on human organizations, but what factors are important to network influence and what impacts do different types of networks have? A study of church groups found that informal systems have great influence on the social structure of the congregations. This is especially true when the networks are based upon information flow, rather than effect, influence or exchange of goods.
